Man Takes Hostages at Clinton Campaign Office

According to Manchester, NH station WMUR, an armed man has taken an unidentified number of people hostage at a Hillary Clinton campaign office in Rochester, NH. This is not a joke, apparently a man walked in to the office and opened his trench coat, revealing what looked like a bomb strapped to his chest. The man has reportedly released a woman and her baby but has not yet made any demands.

Clinton had been scheduled to be at the DNC’s annual convention in Vienna, VA today, but reportedly cancelled the trip. CNN has reported that the New Hampshire offices of Edwards and Obama have also been evacuated, although no attacks have been reported at either of those two locations.

Gallup Poll Shows Republicans in Better Mental Health

Posted on : 30-11-2007 | By : admin | In : Uncategorized

According to a recent Gallup Poll, 92% of Republicans say they are in good or excellent mental health, versus only 85% of Democrats. In fact, only 38% of Dems report they are in excellent mental health while 15% said their mental health was poor. Gallup’s study also found that, surprise surprise, people with high income levels and high education levels are in better mental health than those without.

It seems that social science is finally confirming what Conservatives have known for years, that being smart and successful makes you happier and more fulfilled. Turns out that being a poor, angry hippie isn’t really any fun at all. In fact, the Gallup poll showed an independent relationship between excellent mental health and being Republican. For those of you not familiar with statistics, this means that being Republican actually improves your mental health.

In fact, the poll shows that not only party affiliation but some of the hallmark traits of Conservatives have the same independent effect on mental health including church attendance, education, income and gender (being male). So apparently, the Conservative philosophy has been proven to make one healthy, wealthy, and wise. And the next time a liberal does something crazy, just remember, they can’t help it because they are, in fact, crazy.

Below is a letter of endorsement of Delegate Chris Saxman for Senate from the H-SC College Republicans. Saxman is holding a Friday night reception at the Advance to be held in room 1851.

The Hampden-Sydney College Republicans are proud to encourage Delegate Chris Saxman to run for the United States Senate to replace outgoing Senator John Warner. The executive board of the Hampden-Sydney College Republicans has unanimously passed a resolution of endorsement of Delegate Saxman, and would proudly, unflinchingly support his candidacy. Delegate Saxman is a man who exemplifies the future of the Republican Party, exhibiting the necessary leadership ability and conservative values to serve both the Commonwealth of Virginia and the entirety of the United States of America. Hampden-Sydney College Republicans Chairman Martin Sullivan said “This nation needs more conservative leaders like Delegate Saxman. He is the ideal candidate for Virginia, and he is well-suited to helping to return the Republican Party to power in the United States Senate.” Virginia deserves a leader like Chris Saxman as its representative in the United States Senate, and the Hampden-Sydney College Republicans proudly endorse Delegate Saxman as the ideal candidate to defeat the promise-breaking, tax-raising Mark Warner in November.

Way to go Toni! Wish you were attending college in Virginia, but Mike Keough and the D.C. College Republican Federation are looking forward to having you attend Georgetown.

The elephant in the room

Posted on : 28-11-2007 | By : admin | In : Uncategorized

At tonight’s youtube debate, the true colors of many of these clowns running for our nomination were revealed. Folks, it ain’t pretty.

McCain wants to cut millions in “pork-barrel spending.” How about cutting the hundreds of billions we give in foreign aid? He also wants to “return more money to the states.” Here’s a thought: why not just leave it there to begin with?
Romney couldn’t give answers to half of the questions asked because his advisers hadn’t done a focus group regarding the audience at the debate. Lord knows how many advisers he’ll have as president – what with his advisers on torture, gays in the military, his lawyers to consult before using military force… He might just spend all those millions McCain has saved  from “pork-projects” on an army of advisers.
Huckabee wants to put the IRS out of business. Well that sounds nice. Oh, and he supports the FairTax. What isn’t mentioned about Huckleberry’s support of the FairTax is that he wants it to be “revenue neutral” – ie. government revenue remains the same. Of course, he’s  looking to put people on Mars and “significantly increase spending on science and the arts” so he couldn’t actually reduce taxes – or spending.
You know the republican party is in bad shape when someone like Huckabee is competing for its nomination.
The elephant in the room is spending on our middle eastern adventure. How do we pay for it – and send people to mars and increase spending on arts and sciences, and build border fences, etc, etc, etc?
That’s all for now. More thoughts later.

Bradshaw, Macaluso, and Blackwell Announce

Sam Bradshaw, the current Secretary of the CRFV and a sophomore at the University of Mary Washington, has announced she is running for First Vice-Chair of the CRFV. Below is Sam’s statement:

“For the past year, it has been my privilege to serve as your Secretary. We have had an awesome year, but have much work to do in 2008.

I would like to ask you for your support in my campaign for First Vice-Chairman of the College Republican Federation of Virginia. I hope that we can build on our successes from 2007 and continue to be successful in the coming year”.

Patrick Macaluso, a freshman at William and Mary, has announced he is running for Secretary of the CRFV. Below is Patrick’s statement:

“My name is Patrick Macaluso. I am currently a freshman at the College of William & Mary. I am sending you this email to formally declare my candidacy for Secretary of the College Republican Federation of Virginia.

These times are very busy and exciting. I am proud to be a part of the College Republicans, and I appreciate the support and encouragement I have received from my colleagues ever since I arrived at William & Mary. I furthermore appreciate the support and encouragement I have received from my colleagues at other universities. I look forward to working with all of you to help strengthen our organization and implement our ideals for the betterment of Virginia and our great nation”.

Rebekah Blackwell, the current Chairman of the University of Mary Washington College Republicans and a junior, has announced she is running for the Treasurer of the CRFV. Below is Rebekah’s statement:

“I just wanted to announce that I will be running for Treasurer of the CRFV. I am a junior at the University of Mary Washington and currently our chairman. Perhaps a more important fact is that I’m a business major with a concentration in accounting, which should be very useful to the position of treasurer.

As treasurer I will not only maintain financial record for the club, but I will actively seek donations from politicians and organizations that we are involved with. As chairman at UMW I have raised nearly $1,000 in donations over the past month, which gives me experience that I will use on the state level.

If anyone has any comments or questions for me please do not hesitate to ask. I am very excited about this upcoming year and look forward to potentially working with the other candidates who are running. I look forward to seeing each one of you at the Advance, particularly to meeting those who I don’t already know”.

The 2007 College Republican Federation of Virginia Annual Convention is set for Saturday, December 1st from 2 PM- 4 PM at the Jefferson-Kennedy Room at the RPV Advance. The convention is free to all College Republicans.
