Creigh Deeds is Honored to have Joe Biden’s Support

Over the weekend Joe Biden highlighted a fundraiser for Creigh Deeds. Before the event in a statement published on his website, Deeds said, “I’m glad he’s coming back to Virginia tonight as Vice President and am so honored to have his support.” Creigh Deeds has chosen to associate himself with Joe Biden and his policies, and has even made money off of that association. It is only fair to ask what it is Joe Biden believes.

Just like President Obama, Joe Biden believes there shouldn’t be any coal plants in America. As a rural state senator, do you support eliminating coal plants from America, and watching those jobs dissapear from south west Virginia? Not only does Biden (and presumably Creigh Deeds) believe we should eliminate the coal industry, but Biden also believes we should, “spend money to keep from going bankrupt.” While some mocked trickle down economics, this idea is absurd. Every business and family knows that you don’t increas spending to keep from going bankrupt. If after the 2009 elections Virginia is in as bad economic straits as California, is this the path Deeds will use to keep Virginia from going bankrupt?

Not only does Joe Biden believe increased spending keeps people from going bankrupt, he also admits to misreading the economy. We don’t have to ask if Deeds will follow in Biden’s foot steps on this front, because we know the answer to this one. Just like Barack Obama’s running mate, Creigh Deeds’ running mate (Jody Wagner) has misread the economy.

While Creigh Deeds may be honored to have Joe Biden’s support, it is actually quite scary to imagine Joe Biden’s beliefs being implemented in this commonwealth. It would destroy this economy. In Joe Biden’s stirring endorsement of Creigh Deeds, he asked all the donors to, “Break your neck for this man.” While I wouldn’t normally consider breaking my neck for a candidate, it may be all their is left to break in this state after Joe Biden and Creigh Deeds have their way with commonwealth’s economy.

Ken Cuccinelli Calls for Special Session of the General Assembly

Cuccinelli Calls for Special Session:

“We Need to Protect Virginians From Drug Dealers and Drunk Drivers.”

FAIRFAX — Today, State Senator Ken Cuccinelli, (R-Fairfax), and Republican Candidate for Attorney General, called on Governor Tim Kaine to bring the Legislature back to Richmond immediately to address the problems created by the ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Melendez-Diaz v. Massachusetts.

This decision has begun forcing prosecutors to suspend drug and drunk driver prosecutions, “which is a situation that is bad and will likely get worse if we don’t act quickly,” said Cuccinelli.
“The first priority of Government is public safety.  It is with this in mind that I call on Governor Kaine to convene the General Assembly as soon as possible to fix the problem with our notice waiver statute in the Virginia Code.  While Virginia’s law was ruled constitutional by our Virginia Supreme Court, that ruling was a close 4-3 decision, and it is on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.  While I share our Attorney General’s opinion that Virginia should prevail under the current statute, the U.S. Supreme Court will not reconvene to hear this case until at least October, and the case is clearly a close call at best,” said Cuccinelli.
“Commonwealth’s Attorneys are on the front lines in the war on crime, they need to be secure in knowing that all Virginia’s statutes are constitutional and that their prosecutions will not be undone because of Melendez. And of course the state has an obligation to the defense, to ensure protection under the 6th Amendment. I believe the only way to ensure constitutionality is to conform Virginia’s notice waiver statute to Georgia’s, which the U.S. Supreme Court said is constitutional in theMelendez case.  Anything less I believe would be a disservice to Virginia’s Commonwealth’s Attorneys and its law enforcement community,” concluded Cuccinelli.

Until the ruling in Melendez-Diaz, the Virginia state forensic lab was able to submit a certificate of analysis of their findings for use in court in drug and D.U.I. cases.  Virginia law allows the certificate of analysis as proof of the drugs involved in the case or blood alcohol content.  “With the volume of cases analyzed, requiring court appearances by the scientist in every case has the potential to cripple the criminal justice system,” noted Cuccinelli.

Local prosecutors across the Commonwealth are also asking for a special session to fix the problem.  Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Garrett said, “Across the Commonwealth drunk drivers and drug dealers are going free in cases that would have been certain convictions two weeks ago.”

Senator Cuccinelli said, “A legislative fix would be much better than hiring 100-200 new scientists, which we couldn’t do now even if we tried.”

Senator Cuccinelli noted that under the Virginia Constitution, if the Governor does not act, the legislature can call itself into session if 2/3 of the Senators and 2/3 of the Delegates write to the Governor making such a request.  “We can call the special session now, before too much damage has been done, or we’ll end up doing it later, after hundreds or thousands of drug defendants and drunk drivers have gotten off spot-free.  I think we should act right now.”

Does Creigh Deeds Care if his Constituents Lose Their Jobs?

Posted on : 08-07-2009 | By : willie.deutsch | In : Bob McDonnell

One of the biggest debates going on in Washington D.C. right now is on the Cap and Trade bill. The House of Representatives recently passed this totalitarian bill, and now we are waiting on the senate to vote on it. Throughout this debate Bob McDonnell has voiced strong opposition to the job that will kill jobs, raise taxes, increase government control, and do nothing about the environment. Ever since the vote in the House of Representatives Republicans have been calling on Deeds to take a position on this bill. So far Creigh Deeds has taken no stance on the bill. Deeds’ silence on this bill is even more curious because according to a recent RPV press release,

One of the MeadWestvaco plants in his own Senate district stands to be directly affected by this bill. Many of the workers at the plant may lose their jobs because of the increased costs that will be imposed on the plant if the bill is passed in the Senate.”

Assuming this statement is correct (we already know this bill will hit rural areas hardest) Deeds silence begs the question, does he care if his constituents lose their jobs? If he really cared about his constituents wouldn’t he fight tooth and nail against this bill? Deeds refusal to oppose cap and trade tells Virginians he prefers partisan politics and standing with the national Democratic party over fighting for Virginians best interests. The Warner/Kaine administration was marked by partisanship. This is the tradition Creigh Deeds has pledged to follow, and sadly he is taking it to a new low by allowing Virginia to lose jobs in his support for partisan politics.

New Poll Numbers Point to a Republican Sweep

Today the Public Policy Polling group released a poll for the three VA statewide races.  The poll is more good news for a resurging Virginia Republican Party.  It has all three of the Republican candidates leading by atleast 6% and leading among independents by atleast 18%.

General Election Matchups

Governor

Bob McDonnell 49%

Creigh Deeds 43%

Lieutenant Governor

Bill Bolling 46%

Jody Wagner 40%

Attorney General

Ken Cuccinelli 45%

Steve Shannon 38%

Bob McDonnell has a 51% favorable rating and 32% unfavorables compared with Creigh Deeds 48% favorables and 29% unfavorables.  Bob McDonnell also leads 54%-33% among independents.

In the introduction to the polling data, Dean Debnam President of Public Policy Polling had an insightful point.

“The race for Governor right now is in a very similar place to 2005,” said Dean Debnam,
President of Public Policy Polling. “The Republican Attorney General has a modest lead
four months out from election day. The question now is whether McDonnell can sustain
it, unlike Jerry Kilgore, or whether Deeds will come from behind to win as Tim Kaine
did.”

In 2005 and 2006 Virginians saw the top of their ticket lose after enjoying summer leads.  If you want to make sure that this doesn’t happen this year come on out and campaign.  If for some reason Bob McDonnell loses, and you don’t campaign you will only have yourself to blame.  All the signs are looking good for Republicans, and if we all pitch in and do whatever we can we will win in November.

Happy 4th of July from Bob McDonnell

Bob McDonnell sent a message to supporters reminding them of the importance of Independence Day.

Tomorrow I hope you will join me in supporting our Republican candidates at the many events around the state.  Amidst the business of the day please take the time to remember the important truths embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the sacrifices our founding fathers embraced in order to establish this nation.

TOTUS can’t leave the building…

The current President seems to enjoy speaking in front of audiences a lot these days. He speaks so frequently that bloggers and media began wondering how he could memorize so many speeches so perfectly. How could any person, including the President, so perfectly articulate his words? The answer is: he cannot. The trick for the man behind the podium is the thing in front of the podium, the teleprompter.

The President of the United States (POTUS) takes his beloved teleprompter everywhere. TOTUS (The Teleprompter of the United States), as it has been nicknamed, is so prevalent that the blogging community has designed a seal for it.

SEAL OF THE TELEPROMPTER OF THE UNITED STATES

One blogger has gone so far as to actually make a blog for the electronic device called “Barack Obama’s Teleprompter Blog“. You may see it by clicking here.

The criticism of President Bush was far and wide for his famous “bushisms”, but what do you think happens when President Obama is unscripted? Take a look at this YouTube video here.

The current POTUS’ Teleprompter Goes Out (Video)

The video just goes to show that the current President will never be without electronic equipment, and we’re not talking about the nuclear football.

Chuck Norris Allows Liberty Students to Graduate

Posted on : 27-03-2008 | By : admin | In : Uncategorized

Chuck Norris will be this years commencement speaker at Liberty University. This is not a joke, he is actually giving the commencement address. Here is the article in The Liberty Journal detailing how University President Jerry Falwell Jr. read an acceptance letter from the Norris family at the school’s convocation service on Wednesday. Liberty students should feel honored that Chuck Norris is allowing them to graduate. This guarantees a beautiful, sunny day because, as we all know, Chuck Norris controls both beauty and the sun. Hopefully, nobody suffers any roundhouse kick-related injuries as they receive their diplomas.

“People who reject the idea that ‘government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality’ give (money, time, blood etc.) an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition”.

Two Weeks of Exciting Speakers for William & Mary CRs

Posted on : 26-03-2008 | By : admin | In : Uncategorized

Over the last two week’s worth of meetings, W & M CRs have been treated to two entirely different, but equally interesting speakers. Two weeks ago, W & M Professor John Foubert spoke on the studies being done regarding the damage created by the pornography industry. Last week the W & M CRs hosted a proponent of the Fair Tax, illuminating students to the details of the Fair Tax movement and how it works.

Professor Foubert, founder of the nationally acclaimed One in Four organization with 36 chapters at colleges and universities across the nation, spoke on both research in which he was taking part and published research regarding the effects of pornography on the people that are in it and its consumers.
With a nod to the Sex Workers’ Art Show controversy, Professor Foubert discussed the harm done to the true victims of the sex industry, those who are subjected to participating in it. Citing numerous studies and his own research being conducted presently, Foubert detailed the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on the women involved in the sex industry and the conditions that are often associated with one entering into that line of employment.
Also reporting the dangers of excessive pornography use (a level which he was careful to point out was, indeed, above “average”), numerous studies have shown this to actually be a statistically significant predictor of future violence toward women. Addressing questions at the end of the meeting, when asked why more people aren’t aware of the dangerous effects of the sex industry, he pointed to the power of the $200 billion industry (a value higher than that combined of the NFL, NBA, and MLB) to fight the research being done by him and his colleagues.
Last week, a Williamsburg representative of the Fair Tax presented an informative PowerPoint presentation to W & M CRs explaining the facts, myths, and intricacies of the Fair Tax. The same system proposed by Mike Huckabee in his run for the presidency, the Fair Tax seeks to remove all federal income taxes in exchange for a 23% sales tax that would be virtually offset by the combined effects of removing payroll taxes and the taxes levied upon manufactured goods between the factory and purchaser.
Highlighting the values of such a system, the Fair Tax would be able to take advantage of “black market” income and not suppress the poor via its progressive (read not in the political sense, but in the sense that its effect is different upon different income levels) nature. Answering many questions as to how exactly the Fair Tax would work, the presentation convinced several W & M CRs to at least take a deeper look at its merits.

Upcoming highlights for the W & M CRs include a fundraising drive, chapter elections, and an exciting new tradition…College Republican Camping!
