The recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down D.C.’s handgun ban has revealed that, in addition to economics, liberals are genetically incapable of understanding Constitutional issues. I say genetically incapable because, now matter how many ways the argument is phrased, no matter how simply and carefully the logic is presented, no matter how many historical facts are offered, liberals still cannot comprehend basic Constitutional principles. “Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.”
- Mahatma Gandhi -
Today in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court’s ruling that the Washington D.C. handgun ban was unconstitutional. Hot on the heels of this decision came an op-ed piece from Colbert I. King of the Washington Post - one so mind-numbingly silly that it inspired me to come out of my blogging retirement to destroy it. My apologies to the current bloggers for taking the story of the day.

If you’ve been paying attention to the latest developments in the transportation fiasco, you might be interested and pleased to learn that a performance audit of VDOT passed out of the House Transportation Committee and out of the House Appropriations Committee. We need to keep the pressure on and demand a performance audit before anymore money is spent on transportation. Conservative groups throughout VA are all over this issue and pressuring Democrat lawmakers to get on board with this common sense step to improving VA transportation.
Call you delegate today and demand: Read More

Now that Obama’s ascendance is officially official (read Mrs. Clinton is willing to admit it) our attention should be turned to a troubling trend among some self-styled conservatives, namely their paradoxical support for the O-boy himself. The narrative generally goes something like this: typical Reagan conservative, fed up after 8 years of Bush II and tired of being bashed as a Republican, takes up with Obama; usually citing his calls for hope, collective action, and “new politics” as reasons for their defection. Here’s the problem. Read more »

Hello Virginia CRs!
Its that time of year again, when colleges and universities have “one last stand” to finish brainwashing young adults into good little liberals like they are supposed to be.
Below is a small list of the liberals that got to partake in the brainwashing:

I want to first off thank the CRFV for giving me the chance to share my thoughts, insights and analysis on the issues most pressing to us. I am also the creator of the GMU College Republican blog, so I am hoping maybe a few of you have already read some of my writings. Now with that out of the way, apparently if you do not like taxes, you need to stay off the roads. Read More

“What happens to the Republicans in 2008 will likely be dictated by what didn’t happen in 2005, and ‘06, and ‘07. The moment when the party could have broken, on principle, with the administration – over the thinking behind and the carrying out of the war, over immigration, spending and the size of government – has passed. What two years ago would have been honorable and wise will now look craven. They’re stuck”.

“Biggest Government Ever” was the headline on Drudge linking this article. The frightening thing is that nearly all this expansion occurred under traitorous Republican leadership. Whether it was Medicare Part D, nation-building operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, No Child Left Behind or any other of the bank-busting do-gooderies dreamt up by our friends in Washington, the philosophical moorings of the party seem to have been detached. There is a serious need for a Republican Renewal, a return to philosophy. Ron Paul’s new book is an excellent introduction to the conservative ideas of yore and the principles of the Old Right, exemplified by “Mr. Republican”, Robert Taft. Also, George Nash’s Book, The Conservative Intellectual Movement in America, is a fine primer on the variances in conservative thought. Read More
